Thanks George. What an outstanding posting. Unfortunately, I guess I'll never know where ol' John Luther Martin is buried "officially". I have to presume he is buried in Vicksburg, probably at Cedar Hill.

He must have been a tough old bird. If my fifty-five year old constitution is any indication, I don't know how long I would hold up under the rigors of being a Confederate infantryman. I presume you are aware of the fighting record of this unit as a part of Green's Arkansas and Missouri brigade. John Luther didn't join the unit until just before the transferred East of the Mississippi, but at Corinth, Port Gibson and Champion Hill they saw extremely hard fighting and suffered heavy losses.

I have some extended family members, who descend directly from this man who will find this info very interesting.
