Selma, AL POW's
My g grandfather, James Rufus Settle, served in Company A, Ham's Cavalry Regiment and was captured when Selma, Alabama fell April 2, 1865. He related to my father that many of his unit were trapped in a bend of the Alabama River and some drowned attempting to swim the river to avoid capture. I have been trying to find out where the Confederate prisoners were held until they were paroled at the end of the war. I have one unconfirmed report that he was paroled at Montgomery, AL but any other more reliable information would be greatly appreciated.
