Marion J. Hendrix, 28, Private, Company K, 27th Mississippi Infantry, enlisted October 19, 1861 at Aberdeen, Mississippi by Capt. J. B. Sale for 1 year, detailed November 23, 1862 for unstated duty, last shown present on the March & April, 1863* muster roll, last paid, February 28, 1863, no further records
* The company was stationed at Camp Withers, near Shelbyville, Tenn. at this time. Their record of events for the preceeding two months reads:
"Remained in Camp near Shelbyville, Tenn. since last record of events until Apl 6, '63, when we rec'd orders to proceed out onEaglsville Pike road some 8 or 9 miles from Camp, where we remained on pickett duty for eight days. Were then ordered back to Camp where we remained until Ap. 27th '63 when we rec'd orders to move camp and marched out about four miles on Lewisburg Pike road S. West of Shelbvyille to Camp Withers where we now are.
Note: The following 4 bi-monthly muster rolls are missing from these records, the next on file is that for the period Jan & Feb 1864, there is no record for Marion. Thus, we must assume that during the intervening period he was dropped from the rolls, which would have been recorded on one of these. This could have been because of death, capture, desertion, discharge, etc. We have no way of knowing the reason.
