It's a mystery no Federal parole certificates from Vicksburg are not found in his record file. Unfortunately there is nothing in his records to indicate what his extra duty assignment was. This assignment began just after they had been assigned to the Vicksburg siege line rifle pits.

Jasper Duvolve enlisted as a Private in Company E, 37th Mississippi Infantry March 8/April 3, 1862 at Shubuta, Mississippi by T. T. Houze/R. McLain, for 3 years or the war, recorded sick in hospital October 30,1862, recorded detailed on extra duty from May 18, 1863, company muster roll at the end of the years notes: "Been in parole camp since last muster; a part of the company been declared exchanged," present and still on extra duty on August 31, 1864, no further records
[Note this is the last company muster roll extant]

The 37th Mississippi manned the Vicksburg siege line rifle pits just below the Stockade Redan about 200 yard above the North Fork of the Glass Gayou during the Union assaults on May 19 & 22, 1863. They were attached to BGen Hebert's 1st Brigade of MGen John Forney's division. During the Vicksburg siege, they lost 17 killed, 56 wounded and 7 missing.
