Well over a hundred cards and papers in his CSR. Do you have those copies?

By operation of the law, a commission as A.D.C. was vacated when the commanding officer resigned his commission. It seems that Porter wasn't aware of this for some time after Crittenden's resignation.

Porter remained in service by virtue of a commission as Captain, P.A.C.S., confirmed on Apr. 30, 1863, to report to General Clark. His parole gives his residence as Galveston TX.
