Re: Capt. Cook's Co. - Mississippi Horse Artillery
We have a family story about a Captain Cook which I believe is Greenville Cook referenced in this posting. Captain Cook was a surgeon who turned into a soldier on a pivotal day in battle when his leader was killed. He became the leader of his company. Shortly thereafter he was captured and stayed in a Union prisoner camp. I have been looking for where he might have stayed during his imprisonment. Because he was a surgeon he treated prisoners and Union soldiers alike. He was an excellent surgeon for his day. For his service to help all of those around him he was released from the prison camp before other Confederate officers and returned to his family. He lived in Copiah County Mississippi near the town of Beauregard.
