Yes, Col. Withers commanded the First Mississippi, all the various companies / batteries in the regiment. Not all references to Withers' artillery will be to Bradford's / Cook's battery, in fact probably very few will. Generally (indeed universally I believe) there would be but one Captain to a company / battery; that has suggested to me that Cook took over command of the battery after Bradford's departure (death? resignation? capture?), and likely fairly late in the war. I've not learned any new facts of any significance since my [very limited] postings on Cook's battery during 2008. Sorry. I hope someone "out there" has pertinent information for you.
