Furthermore, when I overlay that 1864 period map (which shows the location of Bluett's Bridge) on top of a modern map of Columbus using the topographic features of the Tombigbee River as the main reference for size/scale and positioning, the old bridge's location matches precisely with an existing railroad bridge to the south of Pickensville Road. The current rail line actually follows the path of an 1864 road that led to the south-southeast away from Columbus and crossed Luxapalila Creek at Bluett's Bridge.
