Randy and GB,

I know the 5th travelled by rail along with other MS and other state units at least part of the way from Pennsecola as the Western CS Army was being concentrated around Corinth. This info I believe came from Braggs report.

As for soldiers dying at home... Because Southern soldiers were relatively close to home they were often sent home to recuperate if ill or injured... ussually with bettey results than army run hospitals or sickwards. My g.g.grandfather's next younger brother Charles A. Nash also of the 5th MS was sent home from Pensecola to recover... and was still at home during the battle of Shiloh. My g.g.grandfather John J.N.Nash and 2nd brother Ira M.Nash were both wounded the morning of the 6th... and evacuated to rear where my g.g.grandfather saw his brother finally expire that night. John was then sent to Corinth were within a week he was sent home to recuperate from his upper-leg wound.
