Re: William Storrow Lovell
In Response To: William Storrow Lovell ()

William Farley Storrow Lovell was the son of Joseph Lovell, the latter attending Harvard University with Samuel Appleton Storrow. After Harvard Medical School, Joseph Lovell would become Surgeon General, USA (1818-1836). After reading law, Storrow would become Judge Advocate Major, USA (1815-1819). Both men served directly under General Jacob Jennings Brown of the Northern department (aka division).

Storrow and Lovell were both Massachusetts men who migrated south, Lovell to Washington, D.C. and Storrow to Virginia.

The name "William Farley Storrow Lovell" apparently commemorates William Farley Storrow, eldest son of Samuel Appleton Storrow.

Civil War historians will note that in Massachusetts, S. A. Storrow mentored the younger Edwin Vose Sumner, later assisting him in acquiring a commission with the U.S. Army. Sumner would become a Major General, serving in the Civil War. In recognition of his friendship with Storrow, Sumner would name one of his sons, Samuel Storrow Sumner (destined to become a Major General himself).
