Question to anyone who can help me:
My ancestor, Private A.(nderson Sinclair was on muster of MS 8th Cavalry, Co.A, thru Oct. 1864; but the next muster I have shows him on

"Roll of Prisoners of War listed under 28th Cav. Co. H, commanded by Col. J.T. McBee, surrendered at Citronelle, AL by Lieut. Gen R. Taylor, C.S.A, to Maj. Gen. E.R.S. Canby. USA, May 4, 1865, and paroled at Gainesville, Ala., May 12, 1865." There's a 'gap' from Oct. 1864 to May 1865??

Did the 8th Cav. merge into the 28th, and if so, when? I don't understand why the change in regiments.
