I am embarrassed to admit that much of my conclusions on my research have been incorrect. However, thanks to Mitchell Sanders, I think I have a much more accurate knowledge of my Civil War ancestors. From now on I plan to write in pencil and not ink.
From MDAH I have three documents on Merida Fortenberry. Two items are muster cards for the period of time that M. M. Fortenberry was in the 2nd Mississippi State Troops. The first card shows that he enlisted in Co. A. on August 8, 1862. He was enlisted by S.H. Brown for 12 months at Monticello, Mississippi. The second card was the muster roll for the period Sept.23, 1862 to Feb. 28,1863. It indicates that Merida was absent without leave since Nov. 20, 1862
The third document is a grave registration for Merida Fortenberry member of Co. F 7th Mississippi Regiment. Enlisted 8-10-1861 discharged 4-26-1865.
I believe Merida M. Fortenberry to be the soldier in the 2nd Mississippi State Troops, and Merida A. Fortenberry, his nephew, the soldier in 7th Mississippi.
I really thank you for all the information you have provided.
