I believe the camp you refer to was on Clear Creek, northeast of Bovina. Osterhaus was in command of the forces in that area, IIRC. I can't remember if I have that recollection from reading the Papers of Sherman or the Papers of USG Volume VIII recently ... if I had to guess, I think it was in one of the footnotes of PUSG.
