Re: George W. Brown, Greene County MS
George W. Brown, Co. "B", 32nd Alabama Regt., enlisted Feb. 24, 1862, Mobile AL. Present on roll through last on file dated February 1864, often detailed as orderly for Co. Harry Maury until his transfer to command of a cavalry command. Brown took the oath of allegiance to the United States at Chattanooga TN, Aug. 22, 1864. He signed as a resident of Greene County MS, 6 ft 1 in tall, dark complexion and hair, blue eyes.
Since Brown left military service at that time, there probaby would be no record of death. If the family story is correct, he died on the way home, traveling up the Alabama River to a point some miles east of his home. This probably took place during the summer of 1865.
