The Missouri in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Sam Vaughan, Hickman's Mill area

Thank you for the link, John. I read Martin City Telegraph since I live in Washington Twp, but missed that story somehow. My interest in what's happened history-wise in my 'hood isn't new but I'm now on the Palestine Cemetery Assn board and I've begun a new direction of research ... the Civil War era. Thanks to the late Lou Austin, the cemetery was given "Historic Site" designation by the Natl Park Service in 2019 since it sits along the Santa Fe Trail at 93rd St. I'm now getting interested in the stories of people buried there. Since Hickman's Mill was a military post during the Civil War I'm wanting to learn more about that. Am currently reading "Scattered to the Four Winds" by Ralph Monoco. Found Jacob Teford Palmer's story which explains how people had to go to Hickman's Mill military post to a specific building and sign loyalty papers. Jacob and wife Catherine are at Palestine.
