Sam Vaughan, Hickman's Mill area

Having just read Bruce Nichols' great volumes "Guerrilla Warfare in Civil War Missouri," in Jan 1865 a "pesky guerilla" band led by Sam Vaughan appeared to be near their base at Hickman's Mill. I cannot find much about him outside of mentioning in Bruce's books. His claim to fame was the murder of Methodist minister Rev. Thomas Johnson near Westport. Does anyone know what became of Vaughan?
