He appears on the July 1863 draft registration age 40, red lined out with drafted held to service Feb 28, 1865. Son James appears on same page lined out dead Feb 20, 1865

He died intestate in 1873. Nothing in probate records at this stage helps me on location. There are land recodes for a Joel Long in Linn county MO but dates/ages don't fit, may be a father or other relative.
