The Missouri in the Civil War Message Board

Hugh McWaters

So, scratching a bit deeper, Al Tracy may be the last of his particular line descending from the McWaters family, but there are a couple other collateral branches with active genealogy savvy descendants (start with Ancestry message boards, e.g.), from which I extract the following. Hugh's wife was Mary Jane SALMON McWaters, (married 1841) said to have been "banished" (not murdered). And Hugh: "Hugh McWatters probably died of natural causes in the Civil War near Mulberry, AR," and "Hugh died of fever at "Big Mulberry" in Crawford County, Arkansas, on 19 November 1862. He enlisted in Cedar County, MO on 5 August 1862. I found copies of his military papers on Fold3.com." Most recent activity on the genealogy boards seem to date to 2012 of so, these people may have more information.
