This seems crazy; however, is it possible that there could have been two Jasper C. Thompson's in this unit, or could there have been some kind of mix up?

According to NPS.gov there were two men who enlisted under the name of Jasper:
Thompson, Jasper Regiment Name: 44th Regiment, Missouri Infantry Side: Union

Thompson, Jasper C. Regiment Name: 6th Regiment, Missouri State Militia Cavalry Side: Union
Alternate Name: Joseph C./Thompson

The first Jasper, according to census records was born in, lived in, and died in Ray Co MO (quick search of census' reveal he was there 1850,1860, and 1900.) He married a woman named Alwida Thompson. They both died in Ray co (or at least are buried there). She in 1914 and He in 1925. According to the 1890 Vetern's schedule, there is a Jasper Thompson, living in Ray Co. His military unit is Co F 44. He served from Aug. 64- May 65

The second Jasper married a woman named Olivia Jane Brown.
I've not yet found him on the census prior to 1880; however, his wife lived in Pike Co Mo in 1870 (next to Audrain Co, where they married, and also next to Montgomery Co where they are found in 1880). He eventually died in Florida in 1915; findagrave, has his tombstone picture. On the tombstone it gives his Regiment. Since he died before his wife, the widow's pension also includes his regiment (this was filed in Florida). In addition to this, the Veteran's Schedule lists a Jasper Thompson in Jasper Co. His military unit is Co D 6. He served from Feb 62-Mar 65

The crazy thing is on the "draft registrations" there is a Jasper Thompson, living/stationed in Ray Co, who is listed as currently serving in the 6thMSM.

I have yet to find the "other" Jasper on the "draft registrations". Is there the chance that he could have been out of state?

This is quite the conundrum for me...what do you all think?
