Like any event that took place over a century and a half ago, records/accounts and the interpretion there of can be difficult to pin point. So many brave souls put their lives on the line and that is the most important memory to retain. Some of our sources on John Hutchison included works from Inell McMillon entiled "War Along The Bryant" and the Springfield Leader & Press; Springfield News & Leader, March 1951 concerning the official proclaimtion by the State of Missouri that designated John Hutchison Missouri's last Civil War Veteran. Since all of John's service took place in Missouri and the other brave gentleman serviced also in or with the Kansas unit, that may be the deciding factor for the John Hutchison proclaimation. Just a thought. Thanks to everyone for your help.
