Re: John Bohanon of Bohanon's Mill

Lee,

I assume from the earlier message you cited that we are talking about John Bohanon who lived in Laclede County in southwest Missouri. I see from the USGENWEB archives that John Bohanon lived in Hooker Township of Laclede County. I looked up Hooker Township in Laclede County (from my Missouri township guide), which is the next township (six square miles) south from the township in the northwest corner. If you look at a Missouri road map, this places Hooker Township to the northwest of the county seat of Lebanon and along the western edge of the county, roughly between Bennett Springs at the southwest corner and about Eldridge in the northeast corner of this township. Assuming John Bohanon's mill was water powered, in that area it would have to be on either Niangua River (my first choice if I were to guess) or Mountain Creek (my second choice). None of the other drains or creeks between Bennett Springs and Eldridge would seem to me to carry enough water to power a mill year round. This is conjecture, of course. This will at least get you in the ballpark.

I hope this helps.
