The Missouri in the Civil War Message Board

Re: GGGrandpa's Civil War Service

OMG; you are all so wonderful. I knew about the sos.mo.gov site but only insofar as the Missouri Provost Marshal records. What had me fooled about the 1860 census is William's wife's given name was the same; I should have checked the DOB/DOD. So now I will do further research on both the 4th E.M.M. and the 4th Cavalry and Infantry - so I can order his actual records ?

I am so grateful and humbled at your willingness to give freely of your knowledge. My father started this search 20 years ago, and I am continuing his goal (we have a picture of Dad in his SOUV uniform saluting the flag when he was five years old). Dad, and his father and grandfather belonged to the SOUV - he told us about them putting flags on the graves of every veteran in every cemetery each Memorial Day and shooting a volley over the grave of the highest ranking officer. My hope is that the new Civil War Museum provide a special 'corner' to the sons of veterans groups - who made sure that all CW veterans received their due. William's things will be donated to the museum per Dad's wishes - except for the guns which the boys keep.

I am so grateful and humbled at your willingness to impart your knowledge; and owe you all much more than $'s for great research and for your excellent input.
