GGGrandpa's Civil War Service

Researching William Frederick Braun 1843-1908; married Margaretha Peters in 1868.

We have his memorabilia buttons and notes stating "Brigade commanded by C.D. Wolff" - possibly the G.A.R. post he joined after the war ? His obit states: "Camp #5, St Louis IOOF - this possibly another organization he belonged to (his DC says buried Oddfellows Cemetery however he was buried in the family plot at New St Marcus). William Braun is listed (with his wife and children) on the 1860 StL 1st Ward census at the U.S. Arsenal along with a Major Bell ?? The census taker notes born in England but this notation must be for Major Bell as William was born in Bavaria - his father, Anton Braun and two grandchildren died in the 1863 StL smallpox epidemic - so we estimate their arrival in America sometime between 1843-1860.

Some time back, Mr Trout with the Missouri Civil War Museum found a record on the 1909 Adjutant list for a Wm A. Braun who died in 1908 (1st Sergt Co A 5th MO Cavalry) Post 496 - Col. Muemann commander. However, our gggrandfather is Wm. Frederick Braun - noted by family and on his tombstone.

There were 1200 men in the 3rd, 6th and 10th MO militia. Family lore has him in the EMM (Enrolled MO Militia). Without knowing his service record, the hope of finding our Wm Braun/Brown seem doubtful...

Any help would really be appreciated.
