The original 5th MSM Cavalry was dismantled in late 1862 as a prelude to the massive reorganization of the entire Missouri State Militia structure. That reorganization took place in February 1863, at which time the 12th MSM Cavalry was also dismantled and five of its companies were integrated into the new 5th MSM Cavalry, which consisted of 12 companies.....
