E. Kork, [sic] Private, Company I, Shanks' (12th) Regiment Missouri Cavalry, appears on a roll of prisoners of war of Cos. H, I and K, Shanks' Regiment Mo. Vol. Cav'y, Confederate States Army, commanded by Capt. R. H. Adams, surrendered at New Orleans, La., by General E. K. Smith, C. S. A., to Maj. Gen. E. R. Canby, U. S. A., May 26, 1865, and paroled at Shreveport, La., June 14, 1865, resident of Johnson County, MO.

Note: There is only one muster roll in the records for Company I, that for the period Jan & Feb, 1864. Since there is no card for Pvt. Kork/Kerk, I would assume he enlisted some time after February, 1864.

12th Missouri Cavalry Rgt.

Majs. Samuel Bowman, H. J. Vivien

The regiment, formerly the Jackson County Cavalry, was organized in the
summer of 1863. The unit was in Shelby's brigade and confronted the
Federals in Missouri and Arkansas. It lost two men at Marks' Mills,
Ark. and lost 35 men during Price's 1864 Missouri expedition.

As of May 3, 1864 it reported 35 officers and 292 enlisted present.

It was included in the June 2, 1865 surrender of the Trans-Mississippi
Department.
