Thanks very much for your reply. I indeed think that Cochran's Company C Six-Month EMM was under the command of Col. Rogers for most or all of it's existence. (By the way, Col. Rogers's regiment was the 2nd Regiment State Militia Cavalry. My previous reference to a 12th Regiment was an unfortunate typo.) A series of letters to and from Col. Rogers that I found in the OR makes it clear that the colonel regards Cochran's and other units of its type as his to command--not that he's entirely happy about it. I also think your comments about the company's provisioning are probably on target. Certainly, my grandfather's novel depicts the company getting everything from Cape--although it doesn't mention a command.
