There was an Ned Noland mentioned in the Watts Hays Letters. (look up in the People List)
This was probably either Edward T(urner). Noland (1808 KY - 1863 MO) or his son Capt. Edward T. Noland (1847 Mo - ?)
1860 US Census - Independence, Jackson Co., MO - Lumber Merchant.

NOLAN, Edward J. - Field & Staff, 1st Infantry, 8th Division, Captain/Quartermaster, Appointed 9/17/61, Born in KY, Residence: Jackson County, MO, Age 64 MSG Soldiers chrisanddavid.com

Edward Sr. had 10 children, 7 sons but no Eli.
