Bruce,
Thanks for your answer.
My question belongs to my search about my ggfather Larkin Wesley Hunt who lived in Calwood on the Auxvasse Creek, whom the family lore and the newspapers of Howell county (The West Plains Weekly Quill" & "The Howell County Gazette" the local newspapers, of 19th April 1836") tell he was a confederate in the Civil War. "he enlisted as a surgeon in the Confederate army at the outbreak of the Civil War. He served with Capt. Dave Craig, of Calloway County, Missouri, under the command of General John B. Clark of Howard County. He was in the battle of Moore’s Mill in Calloway County, Missouri, on July 28, 1852, and camped near the old town spring here, where the new post office building now stands.
In later years he recalled that when he passed through West Plains there were only a few shacks standing, the town having been deserted during the war and practically all of the homes and store building destroyed by marauding armies.
Do you think that a confederate who perhaps would have been oppressed, if not hated by some people after the Civil War, because he was with the losers, would be proud of his appurtenance to the Confederates after the war?
Thanks for looking.
