Prisoner of war records show Clark Sturges captured Aug 15, 1863 in Benton Co, Mo and sent to Alton prison May 4, 1864. His name on a "Roll of Citizen Prisoners" at Alton has the remark: "Sep 1, 1864 not here" but another list shows him released June 23, 1865. I don't find him listed that or similar spelling on National or Missouri Archives military rolls: Does "citizen prisoner" mean that he was a civilian?
