Wm S Clay, CONSCRIPT MO

I would like to obtain some information on my great grandfather, William S Clay, CONSCRIPT, MO’s short confederate service

The Rock Island Arsenal Museum, Rock Island IL “RECORD OF PRISIONERS OF WAR WHO HAVE DIED AT ROCK ISLAND BARRACKS, ILLINOIS” provided the information that Wm S Clay was captured in Green Co, MO on Oct 7, 1864 and died in the Rock Island POW camp on Feb 6, 1865.

The Fort Davidson State Historic Museum includes Wm S Clay in it’s data base “Confederate soldiers at the Battle of Pilot Knob” as one of the Confederate soldiers of Prices raid on the basis of including all Missouri conscript deaths listed at Rock Island that occurred after/during the raid as part of the raid.

Wm S Clay’s farm was located in St Francois Co, Randolph TWP around 20 miles from Pilot Knob. I would assume that Wm S clay was conscripted a short time before the battle of Pilot Knob, Sept 27, 1864.

My questions are: What was Prices troops doing in Green Co, Mo on Oct 7, 1864 and how did Wm S Clay get there?
