Re: Ponchatoula Hist Marker missing?

I checked today and sure enough, the historic marker to the men of the 7th Miss killed south of Ponchatoula in 1862 is gone. I went by the Dept of Transportation office in Hammond and they know nothing about it. I will check with the town of Ponchatoula maintenance folks on Monday but I don't have a good feel about this. If stolen well I don't think it can be replaced. The Dept of Transportation assumes no liability for these signs. We went through that the last time it went missing. It cost us over $1800 in 2006 so I'm sure it has gone up. I can only hope that if stolen that the thief will find permanent residence in one of the inner rings of hell. This just astounds me that someone could have use for that sign so it has to be just wanton vandalism. Sorry folks. We tried to do something good to the memory of brave men that died not facing a blue-coated enemy, similar to the brave men that died at Camp Moore.
