Richard Barrett, Captain, Company B, 1st Regiment Louisiana Cavalry, mustered in August 25, 1862, recorded on the May & Jun, 1864 as "Present, On daily duty commanding Reg't.," on the next muster he was absent on detached service in New Orleans, La., resigned and discharged September 24, 1864, mustered out, age 32, September 7, 1864 at New Orleans, La., "he having been rendered supernumerary by the consolidation of the 1st & 2nd Regt. La. Cav. Vols."

Drunk whilst on duty

In this that Captain Richard Barrett Company "B" 1st Louisiana Cavalry on or about the 20th of March 1864 at Mores Plantation on near Alexandria La whilst in charge of a detachment of the 3d Cavalry Brigade and on Scouting duty, was drunk and returned to camp in such an intoxicated state as to be unable to make his report.

Specification 2nd

In that Captain Richard Barrett Company "B" 1st La. Cavalry on the 8th of April last on the march between Pleasant Hill and Mansfield La. before enlisted men & whilst the Army was momentarily expecting an engagement was drunk and totally unfit to do his duty.

Misbehavior before the Enemy

Specification -

In that Captain Richard Barrett Company "B" 1st Louisiana Cavalry on the 8th of April 1864, at the Battle of Sabine Cross Roads, La was drunk and to the extent as to be unable to command his company or to perform his duty as an Officer or Soldier, and this whilst his Company and Regiment were engaged with the enemy.

Conduct unbecoming an Officer and a Gentleman

Specification -

In this that on the 8th of April 1864 Captain Richard Barrett Company "B" 1st Louisiana Cavalry whilst under arrest for drunkenness and during a battle did leave his Regiment and gallop wildly about without object or aim, to the danger of Officers and men on duty.-

Making a false report

Specification -

In that at Morganza La. on or about the _______ of July 1864 Captain Richard Barrett whilst in command of the 1st Regiment Louisiana Cavalry did make a false return reporting Twenty Eight private horses as belonging to Officers of the Regiment which statement and report was false and untrue there not being at the time ten private horses in the Regiment -

I cannot read the endorsements to ascertain the results of his Courts Martial

He had similarly been subject to Courts Martial, charged for drunkenness back in December 1862
