I believe this is your John McWilliams, the age dates do not seem to match, but, that could be due to an error in the Clerk filling out his enlistment papers.
You may procure these records through the service noted in the Red enclosed box above.

The census records his place of abode on June 1, 1860. He was the sole occupant. Perhaps he was working away from the family. I didn't check the census for Mary by her seof.

Harrison's Company G, Balch's Batttalion, Cavalry* April 6, 1862 at Monroe, Louisiana for the term of one year, October 19/21,1863 "lost his papers-seeking transportation to Enterprise, surrendered at New Orleans, La. May 26, 1865, paroled at Natchitoches, La., June 19, 1865, resident of Bossier** Parish, La., his records contain a note from the Adjutant General, War Department to the President, Louisiana Board of Pension Commissioner dated April 17, 1916,

6th Regiment, Louisiana Cavalry

6th Cavalry Regiment was assembled near Minden, Louisiana, in January, 1864. The unit was assigned to the Trans-Mississippi Department and saw light action in Louisiana. Later it operated a courier-line between Camden, Arkansas and Alexandria, Louisiana. In March, 1865, the regiment was patrolling along the west bank of the Mississippi River, then disbanded. Colonel William Harrison was in command.
