That does sound like something that might be covered in "Yankee Autumn in Acadiana," which was written by David Edmonds (the "Conduct of Federal Troops" book was edited by Edmonds in its reprint version). In "Yankee Autumn," there are a lot of Claims Commission files referenced, and what you're asking about sounds like something that would have been in a Claims Commission case, whereas the original "Conduct of Federal Troops" book was written long before any Claims Commission was ever formed.
