I know he was a captain. What I understand is he was well known in breathitt county and most people called he either captian Bill or Cap Smith. William B Smith is not him. I believe I saw his grave in the Snowden cemetary also buried beside his wife. My William Smith never remarried after divorcing my GG Grandmother Jane. Is there a possibility that he actually fought for the Union ? Was the 13th Ky CSA at look out mountain / Missonary ridge ? He would have to be in a unit that was there. From my letters it is the only Specific battle I know he was in. Kinda hard to nail down and I sure appreciate your help
