I am particularly interested in John C. Oney. In his short autobiography, he wrote:
I, John C. Oney, was borned Sept. 4, 1845 on Beaver Creek, Floyd County, Kentucky. Here I lived a farmer boy till I was 16 years of age and then I ran away from home and I joined the Rebel Army, this being the year of 1862.1
I was on duty for some time at Gladeville, Va. and while there we had a battle with the Union Army and in the first battle I was captured and taken as a prisoner to the Union prison at Cincinnati and was kept there for some time.2
I was then taken to Camp Chase, Columbus, Ohio and was kept there for three months and from there to Rock Island, Illinois. I was in prison about 15 months in all starved and suffered many hardships.
Any additional information would be appreciated.
