Thanks for the info, Still not sure it was him. I know he was shot through the stomach and lived and digging through my great Grandpa's letters I know he served with a man by the name of colwell oaks. They had been captured together somewhere in the south but escaped during the night when the men guarding them fell asleep. The building they were keeping them in had no door so they put a bench in front of the door and a guard sat on the bench. When he fell asleep they knocked him over and kept on running. I am told if they did not escape they were to be executed the next day. Does this help nail it down a bit better ? Before I order any sservice records I want to make sure it's the right Capt Bill and get the correct records. Thanks again for all the help
