Enlisted on 9/2/1862 at Owenton, KY as a Private.
On 9/2/1862 he mustered into "C" Co. KY 1st Cavalry
(date and method of discharge not given)

Simon Jackson, Private, Company C, 1st Regiment Kentucky (Butler's) Cavalry, recorded on the April 30, 1863 muster roll as absent, sent to Chattanooga, sick, present on the end of year, 1863 muster and the Jan. & Feb., 1864 muster, recorded on the May & June, 1864 muster as detailed as Regimental Wagoner, reported as absent without leave on the December 31, 1864 muster roll, no further records

There are no further surviving muster rolls which preclude knowledge of his subsequent service.

Record of Events, Company C, for the period June 30 to December 31, 1864

Was doing duty on the right of Hood's Army until 27 July. Started after Genl. Stoneman, had a fight with his forces near Hillsborough [sp?], Ga. After an engagement of eight hours he surrend [sic] to Col. J. R. Butler. 2 Aug. pursued those that escaped and engaged them near from Seirverville [sp?] After a short engagement they fled in great confusion leaving in our hands a large number of horses, arms and equipments. From there we were ordered to Athens, Ga., and from there to Middle Tenn. Was cut off from Genl Wheeler near Alafandria [sp?] ??? Made our way through East Tenn. and West Va. Was at Saltsville just in time to assist Genl W. S. Burbridge draw his salt. We were then ordered Bear Creek Gap where we met the enemy repulsing three successive charges [11/12/64]. We were then ordered to report to Genl Cobb at Macon and from thence to Clinton where we met the enemy the enemy falling back we were ordered to Milledgeville and came up in rear of Shermans Army engaged the enemy over four hours near Jonesville losing Capt. Witt killed* and on the following day had a desperate engagement with the enemy lasting two hours were then ordered across the Savannah River. W. H Hardie, Lt. Commanding.
