The quarterly meeting of the Big Sandy Valley Civil War Round Table will be held Saturday, August 29, 12:00 noon, at the Ponderosa Steak House in Paintsville, Kentucky. The speaker will be Gary Matthews of Lexington, author of Basil Wilson Duke, CSA, published by University Press of Kentucky. The presentation will focus on the time during which Duke took over the command of John Hunt Morgan until the end of the Civil War, a period when, in April of 1865, many east Kentucky/southwest Virginia members of the 10th and 13th Kentucky cavalry units were near Christiansburg, Virginia, ready to move toward the lower Shenandoah Valley and eventually join Lee's army.
