Re: Capt. William W. Lillard’s Company, Independ

Mr. Miller is correct. There were several different William W. Lillards. The Columbus, KY one (my GG Grandfather) is William Wallace Lillard (born 1828)of Captain Lillard's Company of Independent Scouts and Rangers. The other one cited in Mr. Martin's post is William Wesley Lillard (b. 1818) of Decatur in Meigs County, TN. William Wallace Lillard's compiled service record from Roll M258 shows he was present for Muster at Columbus, KY on 11-21-1861, and he also appears on a list dated 11-24-1861. At this same time, William Wesley Lillard is shown as 2nd Lt on a muster roll of Capt. McKenzies Company of Tennessee Cavalry on 11-01-1861 at Decatur, TN, Natl Archives Roll M268.
