I am doing historical research for a project on the town of Jasper and Pickens County, Georgia. In late July 1864 (ending July 29, 1864), a Captain John B. Cumming or Cummings led a detachment of the Third Kentucky Cavalry on a very significant but largely forgotten raid into Pickens and fought a battle with guerillas near Jasper. Any information that you can share with me on this event will be very much appreciated. Thank you very much.
