Battle of Richmond, Ky.

A Missouri man I am researching claims to have been a volunteer aide on the staff of Union Brig. General William Nelson and that he was wounded at the Battle of Richmond, Ky. The soldier, John W. Emerson, states that he was without a commission. I have been unable, in a couple years of searching, to gather any further data on these events. I have researched the battle extensively through the Official Records. I hoped that the book on this battle: D. Warren Lambert "When Ripe Pears Fell: The Battle of Richmond, Kentucky" may mention John but cannot locate a copy in my part of Missouri. Doe anyone out there have a copy of this book and can check for this man's appearance?
Don't believe he had any relatives serving with him.
