interestingly I have never come across any primary sources that validate the flag. But I can say that when I went to Kansas to look at it's flag collection, I notice they had the flag for the 2nd Ks. colored infantry showing battle honors for Cabin Creek. I also noted that the 1st. Ks. colored flag did not have a battle honor for Cabin Creek. I asked them how that was possible. They later told me after doing some research on the matter, that appearently the names of the battles had been added sometime after the war, and apperrently got the wrong honor on the wrong flag.
So here is a case that a primary source was giving out false information. What I learned from this is that we have to be really careful with the facts.
I hope you can find something that colabarates the Flag did have Cherokee Braves written on it.
