Re: DWC Lipe
In Response To: DWC Lipe ()

Ken,
I looked up the infor in the Cherokee Cavaliers--Dale-Litton Page 131 letter July 12,1863
Stand Watie to Sarah C. Watie
summary--I had a hard trip of it,while I was gone had one of the severiest fights that has been fought in this country on the bank of Cabin creek fought two days, the Feds forced and drove our men away from the ford, the 2nd day by a severe canonade, had 2 pieces the first day and 4 pieces the 2nd, I lost but few men.

P.S.
I thought I had mentioned in this that Joe Landrum,Procter Landrum.Fite,Henry Shaw,Major Lipe,
and Calvin Miller were taken prisoners, a day before the fight.

It looks to me like they all joined the Fed's of Kansas?

DeWitt C Lipe is shown as a private in 1st Regiment Cherokee Mounted Volunteers C.S.A. co. I
ALSO SHOWN--father Oliver W.Lipe and brother John G.Lipe{K.I.A 1862 July} both privates.

His bio omits any civil war service-likely for this action

C.C. Lipe
Bio said-- Clark born in 1847 [AGE 17]and in about 1864 joined service to help get the family back together again--noted nothing about him in the civil war ranks--?
