Thank you for responding. In the April 1865 Savannah newspapers I found two separate lists of
women and children that were exiled up the river toward Augusta, to a place called "Sisters Ferry".
I agree, the March-April 1865 Augusta newspapers may be a good source for what I'm seeking.
They are an excellent source for late war information before the Union occupation. I'll be at the
Georgia Historical Society in Savannah in 2 weeks. I'll check what they might have regarding the
exiles and what official ordered their removal. I know my great-great-great aunt was exiled on
April 6, 1865, the very day her husband and brother were killed @ Sailor's Creek, VA as members
of the Savannah Volunteer Guards, aka the 18th GA Battalion Infantry.
