Hello Phil, My knowledge of the Local Defense Troops is limited so take what I write with a grain of salt. Sometimes a battalion was commanded by a captain as in the case of Freeman's Battalion in North Carolina. I believe he had three companies in his battalion, A,B,C and because he was the senior company officer he took over as commander of the battalion.

After looking a bit closer it appears I was incorrect as the Light Duty Troops and the Local Defense Troops were two separate organizations.

When I looked at the unit history of the 1st Local Defense Troops on fold3 and saw some of the companies later in the 2nd Battalion Local Defense Troops it sort of reminded me of structure of Freeman's Battalion.

I would be pleasantly surprised if you find another regiment even in the Local Defense Troops that was unaccounted for.
