Thank you for your explanation I will check the letters, but I believe that Dr. Thomas Amiss was still with the 31 GA Infantry. He was transferred toward the end to NC. 1st assigned to an artillery battery and a short time later a POW camp of Union soldiers. I do know that Dr. RG Holloway, assistant surgeon (later promoted to surgeon), was with the 38th GA Infantry as long as the 2nd Corps was at Petersburg. I have pictures of both Dr. Holloway and his cousin Dr. Thomas Amiss.
