Captain Joel C. Fain, was Captain of Company K, 8th Regiment, 3rd Brigade, Georgia State Troops, which was called into service November 7, 1861 for the term of six months. It was apparently disbanded May, 1862.

Joel Cicero Fain, Captain, Company D, 1st Regiment Georgia Partisan Guards,* enlisted May 8, 1862 at Blarsville, Ga. by J. C. Fain for 3 years or war, stationed at Camp Felton, Ga. May 23, 1862 and at Camp Nelson, Ga. July 1, 1862

* This organization was one of the companies of the Cavalry Battalion, Smith's Legion, George Volunteers, which battalion became the 6th Regiment Georgia Cavalry in March, 1863, this company becoming Company B of that regiment.

There are no available records for Fain's Company K. There was an 8th Georgia State Guards organized late 1863 and mustered out February 4, 1864

Record of Events - Field & Staff, 8th Georgia State Guards

Sept. 15 to Dec. 31, 1863, dated January 25, 1864, stationed near Savannah, Ga.

No further muster rolls
