Re: Killed at Chickamauga - Where buried?

Although I can't answer the original question at hand, I thought I'd share a family story with you about my ancestor Pvt. Thomas E. Martin of the 47th GA (Co. K - Caper's Volunteers; Bulloch County). He served with two of his brothers and was killed at Chickamauga on the 2nd day, September 20, 1863. The brothers buried him on the battlefield but couldn't find his burial place when they went back to look for it later. In researching this story I found out that casualties of the 47th were buried in a mass grave then later reburied at a cemetery in Rome. Thomas was not on that list. One of the other brothers is supposed to have died in an Atlanta confederate hospital and may be buried with the unknown Confederate dead of Oakland cemetery. All of this except for the Regiment and death information is a family story, but I thought you'd like to see it anyway.
