Alan,

I have found several men in the 39th Georgia who joined/conscripted after the initial formation (March 1862) and did not make it until the next surviving record (July 1862 Regimental Roster). The first surviving record was the Bounty Roll dated March 28th. How I found them was through the widow filing for a widow's indigent pension. They came in and would die of disease and fortunately had other members of the regiment that were witnesses. Now that begs the question: Given the numbers that died of disease, how many failed to be captured in any surviving official record?

I learned a long time ago not to rely totally on the CSR's as the end all, be all of sources. I keep, as I know you do too, my eyes and ears open.
